Including the infamous Black Bear. Following are some facts about black bears to pique your interest and give you a head up as to how to handle yourself when witnessing this beautiful creature.
Black Bears are usually silent (except in movies in which sounds are dubbed in). They do make a variety of grunts in amicable situations, and loud blowing noises or clacking their teeth when frightened. Clack teeth when frightened. They use a resonant, humanlike "voice" to express a range of emotions from pleasure to fear. The Black Bear does not threaten by growling (except in movies). In story-telling, any sound a bear makes is called a growl.
Bears also will not attack unless provoked. They will ignore humans unless you have food. In this case, leaving the food and walking away is your best option. The bear will not follow you - it's going to going to stay and munch on your lunch!
