DoubleTree by Hilton Front Royal Blue Ridge Shadows

Very pleasant and good value. Worth an extra $20 for the amenities.

Convenient location for Shenandoah National Park

The hotel is just 15 minutes to the north entrance of the park and not too far from Cedar Creek & Belle Grove NHP as well. The property has a unique mix of clientele, between the conference center onsite and the golf course next door; we were surprised that it seemed not many guests were in town for Shenandoah! One thing worth noting if you’re an Honors member is the MyWay credit can only be used at the attached Houlihan’s; we were surprised to hear this, since other Hilton properties allow it to be used in the lobby’s market. It ended up working out fine, but we were definitely caught off guard and wished we would’ve known ahead of time so we could’ve opted for points.
The guest room was comfortable and sufficient for what we needed - it was spacious, recently renovated, and largely clean minus some stray hairs and dust here and there. I noticed a few things in our room that other reviewers commented on; these included the limited number of towels (just three for a double queen room) and the ridiculously narrow shower stall. I’m a ~30 year old woman of average build and my arms were smushed into both sides of the shower. The room also had limited lighting and was very dark at night, even with all the lights turned on. Overall, the hotel was a good choice for our needs and we appreciated the convenience to the north entrance, as well as plenty of shopping and dining just a few minutes away.

Rooms were well maintained and clean. Pool was nice. Restaurant next door leave a lot to be desired. Staff were great and helpful.

Great for a weekend getaway to Luray

The hotel is about a 35 min drive away, but is conveniently located near highway 66 and a lot of food options. We had kids on the trip and wanted a comfortable hotel with an indoor pool. Check-in was easy and it appears the hotel has recently been renovated because the rooms and interior don’t match the pictures on the hotel’s website. Everything is much nicer. The golf course looked nice but we didn’t use it. I chose a Mountain View room, but after having stayed there I would pick a golf course view because Mountain View comes with parking lot in the foreground. The room was spacious and nice. The bed was comfortable and being able to close the bedroom door and still use the sitting room and bathroom is ideal for those traveling with kiddos that go to bed early. The only cons I would note is that there is no dresser or drawers of any kind in which to put clothes and the bathroom door opens in a way that makes it difficult to have the door open and share the sink. We’re pretty small people, but the shower seems like it might be tight for anyone needing more space.
The pool was great and popular and we ate dinner and breakfast at the Houlihans on site which was super convenient.

Disappointed with the room

We booked at a group rate, which was not that much lower than what we could have gotten through a travel site. Not a big deal, but for the price, I was disappointed with the room. When we got to our room, there was hair on the bathroom floor and in the shower. The toilet ran all night, which I finally fixed by fixing the chain on the handle. Our room was not cleaned or serviced on Friday or Saturday, even though I hung out the door tag for service. The carpet had not been thoroughly vacuumed, because I found pieces of potato chips and a bobby pin on the floor.
The staff was super nice and accommodating, so that's why I gave three stars. But I probably wouldn't stay there again.
