Beautiful easy access to hiking but not sure worth the price

Stayed at the lodge for one night on our road trip of the Utah 5 parks. I knew we had a lot of driving to do and wanted to stay in the park to maximize our limited time. I wanted to be able to see the sunrise and sunset and staying in the park made that easier. Our room was clean and comfortable. Lighting made the room a bit dark. Loved being 5 minutes walk to the rim. That was the high point. We had very little time in the room with a 4pm check in and a check out time of 11am. To make it even shorter we were locked out of our room at 10am. This was a big negative for me that left me a little annoyed. We had gotten up for an early hike. And came back to our room by 8:30am. We planed to go have breakfast in the lodge and then go back to the room to freshen up before having to checkout at 11am. So we decided to just put our bags in the car before going to breakfast so we wouldn't be rushed after. Dining room was slow. We waited around 15 minutes to be seated at 9am even though it wasn't full. Hostess did say they were having problems that morning. Breakfast took a very long time and at 10am when we got back to our room we found that we were locked out even though we had an hour left and hadn't checked out or turned in our keys. Housekeeping was already turning over other rooms in the building so it was clear to us that they must have entered our room while we were at breakfast and saw our bags were gone. Just completely off putting that they locked us out when we had an hour left on our reservation and hadn't turned in our keys. For the amount of money I spent for the night I don't know that it was worth it for the amount of time. The food in the restaurant was not great too. Staff were all friendly. And the plus was the easy access to the hiking we wanted to do .

I checked the website daily to try and book a room. The booking website was not very user friendly, and would often show nights as available when they really weren't. We were able to secure one night, and it was perfect for us to visit Bryce Canyon. The room was very dark, but suited our needs just fine for one night. There is no a/c or television, but again for one night it was just fine. I had hoped to leave the door to the porch open, but the screen door did not shut properly and I was concerned about insects. We dined in the restaurant, it was more than an hour wait due to the bus tours which I found a little surprising. The price was almost half of what we would have paid to stay in a chain hotel just outside the park - so I would definitely call it a good value.

I have mixed feelings about this lodge. It was very old and reminded me of my grandfather's house. So I guess it was somewhat historical which I'm not sure is good in this case. Coffee maker didn't work, it had dark decor, the lodges were on top of one another so you could see in people's rooms from your room during the day and I honestly was disappointed based on the cost and expectations. The bathroom was updated but not super impressive. Sleep quality good. Restaurant ok. HOWEVER!! It is the best place to stay in Bryce simply because 100 feet out your door you are overlooking Bryce Canyon. That is the reason for the cost and it's a GEM because of that alone. It was worth the cost only because of the location. Watched the sunset till dark and got up early for the sunrise. Can't beat that experience. Well worth the $400 per night to experience that gorgeous canyon!!

So pleased we stayed here! We had one of the cabins which are closer to the rim than the main lodge and found it perfect for the ease of catching sunrise and sunset over the hoodoos, and for making an early start on hikes around the park. The cabin was well enough equipped with fridge, microwave and coffee maker [no trouble getting more coffee from reception or housekeeping]. The cabin was clean on arrival and quite well maintained. Check in was quick, efficient and friendly as was check-out despite there being a power outage due to weather conditions [four inches of snow overnight] – Bryce in the snow was a bonus for us on our last morning so we checked out at the last moment in order to take in the scenery! Restaurant is a little expensive but service is excellent and food [mostly] good. We had an unexpected and somewhat stress inducing problem during our stay which was dealt with efficiently and very effectively by the reception staff. Much credit to them! During our stay of three nights here we were pleased to note that all the staff, with whom we had dealings, we very friendly and helpful, notably Patrick, Summer and Kris. Many thanks to them. Certainly, after having previously stayed at the famous hotel outside the park, we would always recommend Bryce Canyon Lodge as the only place to stay for visiting Bryce. It’s not cheap but is well worth it.

It's all about location! Stayed in the main lodge. Yes, quite rustic, and the room was a little small, but fine for one person for one night. It was clean, and had wifi, but no tv. Less than a 5 minute walk to the rim of the canyon, which is why you stay there, of course!
