The Lodge at Mammoth Cave

limited winter service, functional room, good location

Published Date: Dec, 23, 2024 Travel Date: Dec, 1, 2024 Rating: 3 We stayed one night at the Sunset Terrace. Rooms are basic but functional. There is no seating in the room (since it was December it was not feasible to sit outside). It is a 3 minute walk to the main lodge and visitor center(where the tours begin from). The rooms overlook a nice wooded area.
We did get a call about an hour before check in to tell us that we needed to bring bottled water as the tap water was unsuitable for drinking. There was basically no hot water which made for a brisk wake up. We also discovered the Hotel restaurant is not open for dinner or breakfast. The closest restaurants are about 20 minutes away by car. There is a Starbucks in the main hotel open at 8am with coffee and sad pastries

Plus fun to see the lodge and a bit more of the area after our cave tour. Perfect stop after our tour and making a few more stops before heading down the road.

We did bring an extra blanket and glad we did. Bed comfortable. Shower real good. Coffee maker worked. Green River Grille was real good for dinner & breakfast.

Sunset View lodge

The place is exactly how it is advertised; motor lodge/motel but it is located in the park, walking distance to the visitor center, cave tours, gift shops and restaurant. There is parking right in front, views of the woods, right on the accessible paved trails and windows you can open.
We had plenty of towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash in shower,TV and mini fridge.
My family was happy with our overnight stay. The only thing I would caution is the advertised roll away bed available, not sure where one would even fit a roll away bed in that room! The room is pretty small.

A great historical getaway

Not exactly the Four Seasons in terms of amenities but that's not why you stay here. Cabin looked to have been renovated in the last couple of years and was impeccably clean (and smelled clean). A bit of paint peel on the chair rail but it just added charm to the whole thing. Keep in mind: no wifi, no heat (a bathroom space heater), window A/C only, no TV. We were looking for a quiet getaway and this served the purpose wonderfully. Main activity, when not hiking or cave touring, was sitting outside in the chairs watching the deer. If you want a clean, comfortable, relaxing break from the modern world, I recommend these cabins. Note: it is about a 100 yard walk from the parking area via sidewalk.
