Fine, if you enjoy a room the size of a cruise ship. If not smaller.

Really really small standard room Barely fits queen size bed. Very very small bathroom. Not sure how two people are supposed to function for 5 nights in this place. The fire sprinkler is enclosed in the closet. Yes it’s an historic hotel. And yes it needs renovation. The views are spectacular and most employees seem to have a keen eye towards hospitality. But don’t stay here. Come have dinner and enjoy the views. Stay in a more comfortable room/hotel or B&B

We stayed at the Fairmont for my birthday over the Easter Weekend. I can’t tell you how much we enjoyed our stay. Exceptional service, amenities & activities. Gold service is unbelievable. I’ve never felt so spoiled & cant wait to come back.

Always magical, now updated

We've been to this hotel many times, but this is the first visit since their renovation, and WOW, what a difference! The public spaces have been updated without losing any of the grand old building's original charm. It's lighter, brighter, and I do not miss those grandmotherly old carpets even a little. In terms of the rooms, we had a lovely one bedroom suite. Plenty of space, with lovely, tasteful wallpaper and an extremely comfy bed (fantastic pillows!). My only tiny issue is that the shower is, well... tiny. I think that's probably the price you pay for renovating within the confines of existing walls, but no big deal. The views out over the river and mountains were magical enough to forgive the small bathroom. Breakfast is a great big buffet, with lots of choices to steel your tummy for skiing or hiking. The servers were all first rate. I had a quick lunch in the lobby restaurant, and that was inexpensive and tasty. All in all, still a spectacular property and well worth a visit.

What happened to a classic cucumber sandwich at the Fairmont tea?

We found the tomato sandwich tasted more like tomato sauce, the ham reminded us of a spam sandwich, and the smoked salmon would have been better suited to a sushi roll. The truffle mushroom sandwich was especially challenging. I personally dislike truffle and was surprised to see it featured in a tea sandwich. Whatever happened to a good old-fashioned cucumber sandwich like devilled eggs, croissants, and simple, elegant cucumber sandwich. While the desserts were good we all agreed the sandwiches were disappointing and didn’t match the high standard we associate with Fairmont teas. I would return for the view but may skip the tea in favour of a more classic offering elsewhere.
